” My business journey started 4 years ago after I lost job due to pregnancy and related complications.”
Out of being desperate of unemployment, she decided to learn a skill of tailoring. Within 3 months, she learnt and received a sewing machine as a gift from her husband.
However she did not have enough money to rent a shop and buy cloth to make dresses for sale.
Due to lack of collateral security. She couldn’t secure a loan from the commercial banks she went to, however she kept her business on its feet.
After a while, like many others CETAFI came to her rescue with a loan amounting to Ugx. 300,000 which she used to rent a small room and bought a few clothes for expansion.
Borrowed over 5 cycles and since grown her capital to 5million shillings. Bought 2 more sewing machines, employs one person and she has managed to train three more girls in her field.
” I am able to save 200,000 Ugx monthly in the village savings group, contribute to the needs of my family and my dignity as woman has improved, ” Uhiriwe says.
” My dream is to expand and grow my business and to train at least 10 young women annually with the tailoring skills to reduce on unemployment and dependency”
